Were Germany’s conscience a songwriter, Paul Sies would doubtless fill the role with dazzling aplomb and the requisite bravado. And yet the actor and musician examines these, and other hypothetical scenarios, with just the right touch of self-reflection before cutting to the chase. First with his debut album “Die echte Welt” (2019), which – following a successful acting career – has made him an in-demand artist on stages across the country, as well as a critical observer of present-day society. Then with the follow-up “Why nicht” (2022), released on the unserallereins label, where he complements his charming indie pop with elements of chanson and poetry in the best singer-songwriter tradition. Even back in the beginning, songs like “Trennungswalzer” and “Die bösen Männer sind tot” had people tearing up, and left a big impression on the crowds at his concerts. Since then, times have turned even harsher, colder, and more chaotic. His third album, “Mein schöner Hals” (2025), released last year, thus deals with the status quo with a disarming honesty that provokes reflection but also invites us to question things. With new tracks from the album “Ficken und Heulen”, due out in 2027, he shows us once again this year where we’re at, where we’re heading and what we can do.
