The currency of the modern music industry is all over the place. Every streaming service has its own charts, and often multiple (most played vs 'trending'), arbitrary rules of how songs are counted (are they singles or a part of an album), and that's how most of us listen to music. And streaming is king since physical sales and even downloads are disappearing out of our lives. But which streaming platform matters. The Latin sound rules the YouTube platform and then there is variation still between the likes of Spotify and Apple Music and whoever is coming up through the SoundCloud system.
And while the recording industry argues over who has the right to the
pennies generated per plays, money is made on live shows. And so it
should be of no surprise to you that here at PROMOGOGO the
data-dashboard for ticket sales, appreciate hard-working touring
artists.
So when ICMP announced a Top 100 list of the year's "hardest working musicians" (granted, ones who chart on the Billboard Hot 100, but still) we knew we'd have to tell you all about it. We'll split this exciting new chart into relevant genres, so you can listen to the custom made playlist in your favourite genre while you see if your hardest artist of choice is coming to a city near you.
This time let's look at COUNTRY. What's interesting about country is how extremely localised it is to the N-American continent. While literally any other 'dominent' genre like pop or rock or hip-hop or heck even latin music and k-pop is very international with the biggest touring acts easily hitting dozens of countries per tour, it's remarkable if a country artist leaves the N-American continent.
From the list Maren Morris has the most international appeal and one could argue she's becoming less country with major crossover hits like GIRL and The Middle, and she visited 12 countries in 2019. Next one down the list in number-of-countries visited is Keith Urban who made it to 7 who remarkably is the only American to reach such country heights (he's Australian for those who don't know) with short legs in Australia and the UK although most of his dates were in the US and Canada.
Whether or not country ever manages to have a more international appeal, but it might not even matter because these artists are able to pack stadium after stadium at home.
