In 1974, Elton John was joined on stage in New York's Madison Square Garden by John Lennon.

Turns out Lennon was there due to a bet the pair had made between them. Elton John who at the time was a 'hit making machine' contributed to Lennon's record "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" with vocal harmonies and piano – on one condition. If it went to number one in the US, Lennon would have to perform the song with him onstage.

Lennon wasn't announced as a performer, so when he was introduced on stage half-way through the set; he got a 10 minute standing ovation. He then stayed for 2 more songs.

“As a live performer, Elton John very rarely under performs. This was tragically Lennon’s last ever live performance.”

To bring the list to life, we've put all the songs into a playlist. We were able to find not just the songs, but recordings from that night in 1974 in New York on Spotify.
