Kintsugi

Today's listening inspiration comes from the Japanese tradition of repairing broken pottery with metals like gold or silver. It's based on the philosophy that objects become more beautiful because they've been broken.

The word for using gold specifically is Kintsugi.

If that word sounds familiar, maybe it's because of one little band you may know called Death Cab for Cutie.

Do we need an excuse to listen to old Death Cab for Cutie albums? No.
Will we take it. You bet.

Knowing the metaphorically resonant backstory of its eighth studio album though makes it extra special though.

The "emotion through its lack of emotion" [here] is felt to this day.
