So Vox is this American news and opinion website and media entity that was founded in 2014. They are particularly noted for their knack for explaining complicated and/or interesting things. One of their primary goals is to not just tell the news, but to provide context so its readers get the bigger picture.

But they don't only focus on serious politics and newsy kinda news. They also talk about culture, science, and business. Last year their culture branch launched a series on YouTube called Vox Pop: Ear Worm!

Find the full playlist here. It consists of 9 episodes so far, each about 7-10 minutes in length. They explain how a sound sample from Bruno Mars originates from a Stravinsky piece, speak about the merits of the fade out and repetition and of course, the triplet flow that is the dominant sound in rap today.

Basically, if you're a giant nerd when it comes to music making specifically, this series may be for you.

ep1, Vox Pop: Earworm!

But perhaps the most interesting trivia learned from this video format is actually every single hit song samples Hall & Oates' Rich Girl!!

See video below.

All jokes aside, we thought if you're into music and making music, this Onion spoof would be able to give you a little giggle on this fine day.

PS. if you want to dive even further into music-making-territory and you like Vox's original series Earworm, maybe try the podcast 'Switched on Pop' next?
